Submissions

If you are interested in submitting music to Earth Mantra Netlabel for consideration, we thank you for your interest and want to talk to you! However, please read through the following information carefully first:

  • We are focused on true ambient and closely related genres only. If your release does not match our format, we will not be able to release it on Earth Mantra. If you need a recommendation for a netlabel for your type of music, please let us know and we'll be happy to try to help.

  • We can evaluate only complete albums. Sending us a demo or a random smattering of tracks gives us no basis on which to evaluate your submission. We can't and won't tell you whether your music is releasible on Earth Mantra without hearing the entire album in context.

  • In general, releases should be at least 40 minutes of music, although we prefer releases that are even longer. We can make exceptions, but to be completely honest, the quality of the music needs to justify the exception.

  • When you submit a release for consideration, please understand we might have to to say no. We are musician-owned and run, and so we totally understand how it feels when somebody rejects our music. But the reality is we cannot possibly release everything that is submitted to us, so we have to be selective. We don't enjoy this fact, but there is no way around it.

  • We release music only under the Creative Commons BY-NC-ND license. Details of this license can be found here. If you need to use a different license, we may be able to recommend a different netlabel that can do what you need.

  • Once an album is released, it is not possible to undo it. The Creative Commons license gives individuals who download the album the right to distribute it virally to their friends, so it is impossible to 'take it back' again once it is released. Therefore, please don't submit your release to us until you are sure you want to to make a netlabel release in the first place. Once we post it, taking it back down serves no purpose, and we won't even try.

  • Please understand that there is lead time involved in doing a release, sometimes quite a bit. Depending on our release queue it may take many weeks to get your release out the door. It all depends. We can give you a good estimate, but please bear in mind it is just an estimate and could change.

  • If we release your album, we ask that you release your album digitally only through Earth Mantra. In general, Earth Mantra wants to be the source "label" of the digital download version of your album, if we mutually decide to release it. It's just a matter of common courtesy. But please note we're only talking about the digital download version of the album, not about any physical pressing. Please contact us if you have questions about this, and we can discuss in more detail.

  • We receive many submissions each month. While we would like to give personal attention to each one, we only have 24 hours in a day just like you. Therefore, please be patient after you contact us; it may take several days for us to give you a coherent reply.

  • We will keep any information or music you send to us confidential and will not share it with anyone. If you mail in a CD, however, we cannot return it.

If you are interested in submitting your release for consideration, you can either snail mail us an audio CD with the entire release on it, or provide a location that the entire album can be downloaded.

If you mail a CD, note that it is acceptable but not necessary to send us a retail-ready copy. Hand written CDR is perfectly fine with us, as long as we can make out the artist name, album name, track list, and associated information. Please make sure it is in standard redbook CD format (which essentially means it will play in a standard car stereo or non-computer music CD player). Then contact us to request the mailing address to which to send the CD.

If you want us to download your album, please make sure it is composed of lossless WAV, AIFF, FLAC or APE files (please no MP3), and is packaged up into a limited number of ZIP or RAR files. Once you've done this, then please contact us and let us know where we can download the files from. Free download services are fine, as long as we are not required to establish an account to download the file.
