Bob Ohrum – Elevated on Les décibels sont dans les prés Radio

Thank you to Francis and Julien and their metal radioshow “Les décibels sont dans les prés”, on Radio Mercure (France).  The first hour of the show is Death – Black – Thrash – Power – Mathcore – Doom…  while the second is Dark Ambient, noise, power, and industrial.

This week they played a track from Bob Ohrum’s “Elevated” from June 2010. An album Bob wrote during the loss, grief of his father’s passing and ultimately celebration of his life. Truly an amazing album – and I’m proud to see it pulled out for radio airplay.

Just a blend of good music this time through, elements following elements, building into a pleasant flow. I find the last 45 minutes particularly deep. Enjoy.

New Release by Seren Ffordd Today!

Seren Ffordd – Fractured III – Shards [rM_0045]

We are thrilled to announce the release of Seren Ffordd’s release – Fractured III – Shards.  Here’s what the artist has to say about his album:

rM_0045_SerenFfordd_FracturedIII_300x300‘Shards’ is the third album in a trilogy titled ‘Fractured’.

As a whole the three album project was inspired by the thought that the first act of any musician is to break the silence, rending the quiet by pouring sound into the waiting space as gently as an unfolding rose or as savagely as a lightning strike – all three albums explore that sense of fracture in the sounds themselves and how they are manipulated to create the music, the atmospheres…

‘Shards’ was created as a softer companion piece to the other two albums. It is more dreamy and evocative, the sounds not so much torn and shattered as shifted and slanted. Not so much the stone as it hits the still surface of a quiet pool, but more the ripples of the water from the impact as they reach the pools edges. The sounds changing gently at the edge of hearing, sliding between form and chaos and back again.

On ‘Shards’ every sound is acoustic in origin. Sources include: Wine glass, water, CDs being bent or broken, glass beads, singing bowls, bells, tin foil, breathing etc – many of the original sounds are unrecognisable, having been passed through various effects a number of times. Sometimes the same sound is heard through different effects, creating the shifting textures and tones.

Elemental Gathering – review by A Closer Listen

rM_0041_Arbee-SpectaCiera_ElementalGathering_300x300A very lovely review from A Closer Listen on Arbee / Specta Ciera – Elemental Gathering.

arbee is Mathieu Lamontagne from Quebec, spectra ciera is Massachusetts-based Devin Underwood. Both are prolific electronic artists with a taste for collaboration in their work, with a string of shared credits behind them, although this is their first outing together. They’ve never met but thanks to a decent broadband connection and a dose of inspiration they’ve madeElemental Gathering, a combination of new age-style whooshy synths and taut electro-inspired funk laced through with a good amount of dubby space. It’s an understated release and takes a few plays to get under the skin but when it works, it works beautifully – “Pomme Grenade” has just the right amount of whoosh over a muscular yet dialled back rhythm pattern, “En Pleine Ascension” is a slice of dub techno that gets surprisingly dense before stripping the elements away again for maximum impact. It doesn’t all flow – it might have been wise to have found “Turn Around” a home elsewhere – but overall it’s a high strike rate. Score another for the internet.
