In the first release on the new Relaxed Machinery label, Steve Brand offers up a suite of three long-form pieces in a classic abstract style. His tones and layers are cold and deeply packed, a constant and inescapable cold wind of sound peppered with slight alien-tech underpinnings. With each piece clocking in at 20 minutes plus, Brand expertly uses the time to build and deconstruct, over and over, each new form rising as a mutation of the one prior, an endlessly shifting thoughtform. 2010 is looking fantastic for Relaxed Machinery releases! I’m very happy to announce that åpne sinn will be releasing an album in last 2010 or early 2011 and that Disturbed Earth and Chris Russell have a wonderful collaboration that once I heard it I immediately offered to release it.

Steve Brand – Circular Scriptures
“Time is not actually linear”
Circular Scriptures is the very first (and until now: only) release of a brand new label: Relaxed Machinery, a label owned by John Koch-Northrup (previously a co-owner of AtmoWorks ), claiming that “all artists receive 100% of their release”.
That fact alone sounds like a good enough reason to track down this album on one of the major download outlets or get it as CDR from the Hypnos store .
Circular Scriptures indeed sounds like it’s created by or with ‘Relaxed Machinery’.

A quick update on Relaxed Machinery releases:
John Koch-Northrup – Temporal Arc . This is my solo album from 2001 originally released by the very fine Red Antenna label. I briefly re-released it last year on AtmoWorks, but with our split it’s off the market. I’m working on new artwork ideas.
Chris Russell – Frozen . This is Chris’ third album and the first on Relaxed Machinery. It’s gorgeous and features his interpretation of the winter solstice evolving into the renewal of spring. Mastering is done and artwork is underway. April release.
Bob Ohrum – Elevated
